On Thursday, November 30, HenLaw hosted an attorney panel for students interesting in pursuing a legal career. Students heard from four practicing attorneys who are University of Delaware Alum: Elan Keller, Joan Kruger, Christian Wright, and Leslie Jackson.
Elan Keller a tax law attorney, said that the most important piece of advice he would give students would be to “be honest” even if others in the industry are not. Joan Kluger, who practices patent law, discussed how she began her career as a physicist. Once she realized she did not feel fulfilled in her career, she decided to attend law school and become a patent lawyer. Christian Wright shared his journey as he transitioned from a corporate practice into a more satisfying position with the Department of Justice. He currently works in consumer fraud. Finally, Leslie Jackson described her path from law school to becoming a defense attorney. She described her work in court by saying, “Practicing law involves telling stories, and your story must be better than that of the other attorneys, and the jury should relate with the story you’re telling.” All four attorneys said they felt happy in their career choices, but reminded students that the field is very competitive, so they must work hard.
It was a great evening full of helpful advice, inspiring stories, and a little laughter too. HenLaw thanks students for a wonderful semester and wishes them a happy and safe holiday season!
Good luck on finals and have a great break!
